Q1.
What is Aongen™ Collagen Matrix?
2015-01-20
Aongen Collagen Matrix is a unique 3D-collagen matrix scaffold designed specifically for soft-tissue repair and regeneration wound healing. The matrix is comprised of a spongy structure that supports blood clot stabilization and ingrowth of soft-tissue cells.

Q2.
What is Aongen™ Collagen Matrix made of?
2015-01-20
Aongen  Collagen Matrix is made of porcine origin. The Aongen  Collagen Matrix is composed of ≥ 90% type I atelocollagen extracted from Specific Pathogen Free (SPF) porcine skin and ≤ 10% Glycosaminoglycans.

Q3.
What is the difference between porcine collagen, bovine and human sources?
2015-01-20
Collagen from different mammals is highly homologous. However, human based collagen carries contagious disease risks and bovine based collagen may have BSE concerns.

Q4.
Is Aongen™ Collagen Matrix degradable?
2015-01-20
Yes, Aongen  Collagen Matrix will be biodegraded around 90 days depending on patient’s condition and post-medication. The Aongen  Collagen Matrix is gradually replaced by newly formed soft tissue. The matrix is rapidly vascularized and colonized by soft-tissue cells, this leads to a good integration of the matrix in surrounding tissues without any signs of foreign body reaction.

Q5.
Does Aongen™ Collagen Matrix need to be treated prior to application to the defect?
2015-01-20
Aongen  Collagen Matrix is ready to be applied directly to the defect and does not need treatment or hydration prior to application. Due to its excellent hydrophilicity, the matrix will hydrate quickly with the patient’s blood after placement in the defect.

Q6.
Does Aongen™ Collagen Matrix swell after placement?
2015-01-20
Our measurements indicate that no swelling of the matrix following hydration occurs (90 minute period examined), but it will quickly absorb/ load over 10 times volume of fluid and become heavier after being saturated.

Q7.
Should Aongen™ Collagen Matrix be handled/applied wet or dry?
2015-01-20
Aongen recommends handling and applying the material dry, as it is easy to trim, fold, and reposition in dry form.

Q8.
Can Aongen™ Collagen Matrix be stretched?
2015-01-20
No. Aongen  Collagen Matrix has limited elongation properties and is not allowed to stretch.

Q9.
How many layers of Aongen™ Collagen Matrix should be used?
2015-01-20
The total collagen matrix has uniform distribution of 3D porous sizes in between 10-300um, and this property remains the same in the interface between two layered matrixes. To meet the best adaptation of matrix close fitting various sizes of wound bed required for tissue regeneration, the matrix can be applied as single layer, double layer, and also can be folded.

Q10.
How is the tissue repair process assisted by Aongen™ Collagen Matrix?
2015-01-20
When blood and nutrients are supplied through the edges of the device and directly penetrate into the entire 3D porous scaffold from the surrounding tissue and from the flap completely covering the matrix, cells continuously grow into the collagen matrix randomly and gradually mature on site. After the collagen scaffold is totally degraded, a natural soft tissue is formed on the implantation site. Aongen  Collagen Matrix should remain completely submerged under the flap to avoid premature resorption of the collagen. Tension free to remain the proper 3D porous space is recommended to optimize
the outcome.

Q11.
How safe is Aongen™ Collagen Matrix?
2015-01-20
Aongen Collagen Matrix has been tested according to a series of biocompatibility requirements set forth under ISO 10993. Results of biocompatibility tests showed that Aongen Collagen Matrix is safe and biocompatible. Furthermore, Aongen Collagen Matrix is manufactured in an ISO 13485 accredited facility, without potential contamination by viruses, BSE, microorganism, and pyrogens.

Q12.
What are the advantages of Aongen™ Collagen Matrix to aid regenerative wound healing?
2015-01-20
Aongen Collagen Matrix is with good 3D volume stability over time which creates a functional and proliferative connective tissue bed where native cells may adhere and proliferate for tissue regeneration. The good linking property, porosity and pore size are designed for more stable scaffold structure which guarantees that scar formation and wound contraction is avoided through an appropriate deposition of the new tissue elements and then the repairing and regeneration of the damaged or missing tissue can be achieved effectively.

Q13.
What is the Aongen™ Collagen Membrane?
2015-01-16
The Aongen  Collagen Membrane is a collagen based biodegradable and cell-occlusive barrier membrane with thickness < 50  μm, which is used in guided tissue regeneration (GTR) and guided bone regeneration (GBR) procedures in dental surgery. The membrane affects continuously and it is degraded gradually. Aongen  Collagen Membrane is a γ- sterilization implantable device for single use only.

What is Aongen™ Collagen Membrane made of?
2015-01-16
Aongen™  Collagen Membrane is made of type I atelocollagen extracted from Specific Pathogen Free (SPF) porcine skin. The membrane consists of ≥90% lyophilized porcine collagen and ≤10% glycosaminoglycan.

Q16.
What is the benefit and characteristics of a collagen membrane?
2015-01-16
Collagen absorbable barrier membranes do not require surgical removal. Collagen may promote the attachment of new connective tissue. Collagen is not strongly antigenic and prevents blood loss by promoting platelet aggregation leading to early clot formation and wound stabilization. Collagen may also facilitate primary wound closure via fibroblast chemotactic properties.

Q17.
Why is a membrane necessary?
2015-01-16
Alveolar bone regenerates best with a membrane in place designed for guided bone regeneration and guided tissue repair. The use of a membrane leads to increased volume of bone as well as better bone quality compared to procedures that do not include a membrane.

Q18.
Should a membrane barrier maintain function in Guided Bone Regeneration during the healing period?
2015-01-16
The time of degradation should not be reached until re-ossification of the bone defect is complete. The membrane should be able to maintain the barrier function for contributing to exclusion of gingival tissue from the site of regeneration during the process of bone development and maintenance of a bacteria-free closed area under the membrane.

Q19.
Why do I need membrane when doing GBR procedures?
2015-01-16
In guided bone regeneration (GBR) procedures, a membrane is indicated to obtain optimal results.

Q20.
Is it possible to have an allergic reaction to Aongen™ Collagen Membrane?
2015-01-16
As Aongen Collagen Membrane is made of atelocollagen offering a much better biocompatibility thus the incidence of allergic and inflammatory tissue reaction is extremely rare.

Q22.
Can Aongen™ Collagen Membrane be re-sterilized?
2015-01-16
No. Resterilization or reuse may damage structural integrity of the device and/or increase the risk of contamination of the device, which could result in patient illness or surgery failure. Aongen Collagen Membrane is for single patient use only.

Q23.
Does the Aongen™ Collagen Membrane have to be fixed?
2015-01-16
As Aongen™ Collagen Membrane adheres very well to the defect, it is normally not necessary to utilize fixation screws or pins.

Q24.
Can Aongen™ Collagen Membrane be used for GTR or GBR in open wound?
2015-01-16
No, Aongen Collagen Membrane should be used in a submerged situation. In case of membrane exposure during the healing phase the biodegradation time may be accelerated.
